Marquitte West, while hanging out in Oswego, Chicago, became offended when Bryce Stiff openly showed off his gayness. The offense was enough to make West hire a bunch of thugs, paying them $20 each, to teach West a lesson. After getting beaten brutally, Stiff suffered a lot of injuries and was emotionally scarred. The relatively short sentence for the hate crime caused anger amongst those who wanted a harsher sentence for West.
